Google Play not working: why apps won't download and what to do
Google Play won't open, shows an error, or won't download or update apps. Causes from cache and account issues to payments and restrictions in Russia, and what helps.
Most Google Play problems are on the phone and take a minute to fix.
Quick fix. If an app is "not available in your country", you need a foreign address. Get Surok in Telegram: 3 days free.
- Cache — clear it for Google Play Store and Google Play services.
- Storage — free up space.
- Google account — remove and re-add it.
- Date and time — enable network time.
- A dead VPN or proxy — turn it off or switch to a working VPN.
- "Not available in your country" — the store country is tied to the account and payment method, so a VPN alone isn't enough. Install apps only from official developer sites, never random APKs.
- Purchases fail — since December 2024 Google doesn't accept payments from Russia; only a foreign account with a foreign card or gift cards works.
- Google outage — wait.
