HideMy.name VPN: price, what it is known for, and a simpler alternative
What HideMy.name offers, what makes up its price, who it suits and when Surok is the better deal with Russian sites direct and SBP payments.
HideMy.name is one of the oldest VPN services on the Russian-speaking market, known since its anonymiser and IP checker days. People search for "hidemyname price", so let us look at what you pay for and how it compares with Surok.
What the service is
HideMy.name offers a classic VPN with a long list of countries, standard protocols and apps for every platform. Strengths: many locations and a long reputation. Weakness: classic protocols such as OpenVPN and IKEv2 are easier to block in Russia than modern transports disguised as ordinary HTTPS.
Price
As with most services, plans depend on the term: a month is expensive, a year is much cheaper per month. Exact figures change regularly with promotions, so check the official site. When judging the price, check how many devices a plan includes and whether Russian cards are accepted.
What matters in 2026
Over the past two years the main question has become not "how many countries" but "does it work at all". Three criteria:
- Protocol. You need a transport that looks like ordinary HTTPS traffic, such as VLESS with Reality. Classic OpenVPN is detected and cut at the carrier level.
- Entry inside Russia. If the first node is in Moscow, the connection from Russia looks like normal traffic to a Russian site, and it leaves the country from the server. That is more robust than connecting straight to a foreign address.
- Split tunnelling. Russian sites should go direct, otherwise banks and government services start demanding confirmations.
What Surok has
Entry in Moscow, nine exit countries, VLESS with Reality plus backup transports for mobile carriers, Russian sites direct by default, ads cut on the server. Payment: SBP, Russian cards, crypto, Telegram Stars, and from abroad a card via Stripe. The price does not depend on promotions: 220 ₽ a month for one device, 380 ₽ for three.
Who should pick what
If you need exotic exit countries, or you have used HideMy.name for years and it works, there is nothing to change. If your VPN drops on mobile internet or you want Russian sites to open without tricks, try Surok: the first days are free, and the browser extension gives a week with no sign-up at all.
