Is Notion available in Russia? Why it stopped and what to do with your data
Since 9 September 2024 Notion has blocked users in Russia because of US sanctions. What happened to accounts and workspaces, how to save your data, and alternatives.
Important. Notion closed access because of sanctions, and bypassing it breaches its terms. Save your data first.
From 9 September 2024 Notion stopped providing access to users located in Russia, ahead of US sanctions banning IT services to Russian residents and companies from 12 September 2024. Workspaces never billed from Russia can be regained from outside Russia; workspaces with Russian billing are terminated.
Save your data: Settings → Workspace → Export (Markdown, HTML or PDF), including subpages and files. A VPN may technically open the service but can get the account deleted. Alternatives: Yandex Docs and Notes, Weeek, Kaiten, or local/open tools like Obsidian, AppFlowy and Anytype — most import Notion exports.
