Is Twitter (X) banned in Russia? How to access it and sign up in 2026
Twitter, now X, has been blocked in Russia since March 2022. How to access X from Russia, sign up, why it asks for a phone number, and what to do if your account is restricted.
Quick fix. X opens through a VPN. Get Surok in Telegram: 3 days free.
Roskomnadzor throttled Twitter in late February 2022 and blocked it on 4 March 2022; the 2023 rebrand to X (x.com) is covered by the block. To use it: turn on a VPN, open x.com or the app (another country's store may be needed). To sign up: check your IP, register by email, expect a phone check (users report Russian numbers aren't always accepted), and enable two-factor authentication. Accounts get restricted for frequent country changes, aggressive activity on new accounts, and dirty free-VPN addresses. Grok is built into X — see Grok in Russia.
